The post-mining phase marks the beginning of a new future for many regions.

New uses for buildings and land need to be found for these mining areas, while at the same time trying to preserve the old mining culture. This requires a permanent evaluation of opportunities and risks.

The 21st Old Mining Colloquium on November 9 and 10, 2023 at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site in Essen gave experts from all areas of geosciences the opportunity to discuss possibilities for subsequent use.
